Talks

While there is no shortage of media coverage around refugee issues, it can often be highly misleading and inaccurate. Suffolk Refugee Support brings the facts regarding asylum to community groups and schools via talks and presentations. We explain who refugees and asylum seekers are, why people are forced to leave their countries, give up-to-date facts and figures and both global and local perspectives. Most importantly, we aim to bring a refugee along to give their first-hand testimony.

The talk certainly increased our pupils’ understanding of the issues and provoked many interesting discussions in subsequent PHSE lessons.  I am sure the pupils will always remember this experience of meeting a real life asylum seeker and as a teacher observing, I was encouraged to see that many were able to empathise with him and his story.
